The Detroit Pistons signed Michael Beasley to a one-year deal. This signing will pay off for this team because of the need for small forward depth.

As the regular season vastly approaches, the Detroit Pistons find themselves in better shape after the draft and summer free agency. The franchise slightly addressed their need for more depth at the small forward position by drafting Sekou Doumbouya and signing Markieff Morris.

However, the team is still undermanned at the small forward position which resulted in the signing of Michael Beasley. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the Pistons signed the 2008 NBA Draft pick to a one-year deal.

Pistons fans’ around the world provided mixed reactions about the signing. Signing Beasly makes sense considering the price that the team paid for him. Last season, he played on the Los Angeles Lakers and averaged 7.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

At 30, Beasley still has plenty of basketball left in him and Detroit could use another player who can create for himself. In Los Angeles, he started out receiving playtime but would eventually find himself outside of the rotation.

The Kansas State product still needs to make the final roster, but playing in Detroit will help him out because of the opportunity to play for an up-and-coming team. After last season, it’s clear that the franchise needs to find consistent scoring outside of Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, and Reggie Jackson.

Beasley has struggled to find a place to call home but he can still play basketball at a high level if given the chance. Here are three reasons why signing Beasley will pay off for the Detroit Pistons:
