Cleveland Cavaliers: Each core players ceiling this season
By Tony Pesta
4. Collin Sexton
Ceiling: Rising Star
Although Collin Sexton finished in the top five for Rookie of the Year voting, the Young Bull failed to reach the NBA’s Rising Stars Game. A blatant snub acted as motivation for Sexton to improve as he finished the year strong and will look to carry that momentum into this season.
In the 24 games following the All-Star break, Sexton averaged 20.8 points and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 41.3 percent from deep and 47.7 percent overall. He went on a record-breaking streak, becoming the first rookie since Tim Duncan to score 23 or more points in seven consecutive games.
In his rookie year, Sexton was tasked with being the only offensive threat for much of the season. While Jordan Clarkson chipped in with a career-high 16.8 points per game off of the bench, Sexton was on his own to create his shot in the face of defenses focused solely on him.
Entering this season, Sexton will play alongside healthy Kevin Love and a hungry rookie in Darius Garland. This extra offense should help open the floor for Sexton to score at a higher rate. Expect Sexton to take another step forward in his development and secure a spot in the Rising Star’s game.
