Grizzlies. . Jaren Jackson Jr.. 18. team. 211.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is the fourth member of the 2018 NBA Draft class on the countdown and the No. 4 overall pick in that draft had an up-and-down rookie campaign for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Among the highlights was a 36-point explosion in a Nov. 30 win over the Brooklyn Nets that included scoring seven points in the final 26 seconds of regulation as Memphis overcame a seven-point deficit to post a double-overtime victory.

Jackson also posted back-to-back 20-point games prior to the All-Star break in February against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder, but was shut down for the season after injuring his right quad against the Chicago Bulls in the final game before the break.

In 58 games, Jackson averaged 13.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 26.1 minutes per game, shooting 50.6 percent overall and 35.9 percent on 2.4 3-point attempts per game.

For a 6-foot-11, 242-pound specimen, the rebounding numbers were unacceptably poor and his board work needs to be a focal point heading into 2019-20, particularly with Jackson taking on a bigger role for the rebuilding Grizz.

Jackson, who will turn 20 next month, posted a rebounding rate of just 10.1 percent, 15.0 percent on the defensive glass, and that needs to get better.

But he was a solid finisher even as a rookie, hitting 72.9 percent of his attempts in the restricted area with 57 dunks. He also shot a credible 42.6 percent from the 10 to 16 feet, but that was an area that only produced 8 percent of his total attempts.

The Grizzlies were about neutral with or without Jackson, a marginal 0.7 points better per 100 possessions when he was off the floor.

Now paired with the franchise’s new young star in No. 2 overall pick Ja Morant, you can forgive Grizzlies fans for thinking this might be the start of the next Mike Conley-Marc Gasol partnership.
