5. Donovan Mitchell, Utah Jazz

We all know that Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz has tons of talent and potential, so much so that it is probably safe to say that he will definitely be an All-Star someday, as he has averaged over 20 points per game in his first two seasons in the NBA.

However, with all of that being the case, him getting there this year might be a bit of a reach.

In a Western Conference that is loaded with guards such as Stephen Curry, James Harden, Damian Lillard and Russell Westbrook, it still might be a little early for Mitchell to get the All-Star nod. However, there is still a scenario in which he does get there this season.

The Jazz made some serious moves this offseason to improve their team. They acquired point guard Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies and signed forward Bojan Bogdanovic, previously of the Indiana Pacers, during free agency.

Pairing those two with Mitchell and Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, the Jazz now have one of the strongest starting lineups in the league.

With them being a serious contender, there is a scenario in which they start the season red hot and are near the top of the Western Conference.

If that happens, and with Mitchell being the focal point of their squad, it would be clear that he took that step in being a star who can lead a title contending team and that in turn would make it very hard to keep him out of the All-Star Game.

Mitchell in his first two seasons in the NBA has already shown flashes that he can and will be an All-Star in this league. So if his team shines early on like many believe that they will, then there is a good chance that Mitchell earns the first of multiple All-Star selections in his career.
