64. . Pistons. . Andre Drummond. 11. team

Andre Drummond is a former All-NBA player, a three-time NBA rebounding champ — including each of the last two seasons — and a two-time All-Star.

Yet here he is outside the top 10 of the starting centers in the NBA. Author insanity? Maybe.

Drummond is a classical center in a pace-and-space league, though, and his attempts to take his range beyond the arc last season were mostly a bust — he was just 5-for-38 (13.2 percent) from out there on the season.

His other problem is a continued fascination with shooting from spots where he’s frankly not very good at shooting from.

Drummond made only 38.4 percent of his attempts from three to 10 feet, but took almost 30 percent of his attempts from there. His effectiveness as a finisher at the rim has also dipped of late, from 68.4 percent in 2016-17 to 64.6 percent last season.

He was the NBA’s premier offensive rebounder last season at 16.8 percent and led the league in total offensive rebounds for the sixth straight season, one away from matching Moses Malone’s record streak of seven straight years.

He averaged 17.3 points, 15.6 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks in 33.5 minutes per game last season, shooting 53.3 percent overall and keeping his free throw shooting above the Mendoza line at 59.0 percent.

The Detroit Pistons will be giving Christian Wood a look as the backup center this season, meaning Detroit could very well be around the 9.5 points better per 100 possessions with Drummond on the floor that it was in 2018-19.

But that was just the third time in seven NBA seasons Drummond had a positive on/off rating, part of the ongoing mystery of whether he’s capable of finding a next level. Although in fairness, the one he’s at isn’t too bad.
