Cleveland Cavaliers: NBA 2K20 got their ratings dead wrong
By Tony Pesta
Full NBA2K20 ratings for the Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup have been leaked. Sadly, the development team failed to correctly rate the Cavs roster.
Every year NBA fans build up hype for the newest NBA2K game. While many ratings have already been released, full ratings for each team have been largely hidden. After a few pictures were leaked from the studio’s annual community day, ratings for the Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup have been revealed.

In disappointing fashion, it appears that the development team is severely underrating nearly every one of the Cavaliers starters.
Ratings for the Cavaliers projected starting lineup:
- Darius Garland – 77 overall
- Collin Sexton – 77 overall
- Cedi Osman – 75 overall
- Kevin Love – 83 overall
- Tristan Thompson – 79 overall
Right off the bat, we can see a few noticeable mistakes. For starters, why does Tristan Thompson have the second-highest rating on the team? While TT may be one of the most experienced players on the team, he is not deserving of a higher rating than Collin Sexton or Cedi Osman.
This doesn’t mean that Thompson’s overall of 79 is wrong. This is a pretty solid rating for the glass-cleaning forward. However, it highlights how mistaken the other ratings are.
Despite having an All-Rookie caliber season in which he averaged 16.7 points per game, Sexton is rated the same overall as Darius Garland, who has not played in a single NBA game yet.
The Young Bull finished fourth in the Rookie of the Year race, but did not raise his rating a bit overall since last year.
The most blasphemous rating on this list is Kevin Love at an 83 overall. The All-Star forward appeared in just 22 games last season but averaged 17.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per game when healthy.
These ratings are always given assuming the player is healthy at the start of the year, meaning Love should be at least an 85 overall.
Finally, Cedi Osman clocks in at a 75 overall. This is a very low rating for a player who was named to the NBA’s Rising Star game last season and put up career-highs in every statistic. Osman is a versatile forward that should have been a 77 overall or higher.
Compare these ratings to some other players in NBA2K20 and you can truly see how unjust the overall’s are:
Other notable ratings in NBA2K20:
- Jayson Tatum – 85
- Clint Capela – 85
- Kyle Kuzma – 84
- Marvin Bagley III – 83
- Reggie Jackson – 80
- Wendell Carter Jr. – 78
- Iman Shumpert – 77
- Kevin Knox – 75
- Joakim Noah – 74
When comparing these ratings to the ones that the Cavaliers were given, something is wrong. In what world is Joakim Noah only one overall lower than Osman? How is Kyle Kuzma rated higher than Love?
Why is Wendell Carter Jr. given an advantage over Sexton despite not receiving a single vote for Rookie of the Year last season?
This is where we truly see the issue with 2K’s rating system. With hundreds of players to rank and a rating system that realistically only ranges from 60-99, it’s no wonder we run into these problems.
Moving forward, perhaps 2K should consider lowering the minimum rating to truly distinguish the bottom tier players from the elites.
Overall, it truly doesn’t matter what rating the Cavaliers players are given. This should only act as motivation for each of them to prove themselves this season.
