Cleveland Cavaliers: Larry Nance Jr.

Larry Nance Jr. has spent the better part of his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers serving as a spark plug off the bench.

Blessed with sky-scraping athleticism, he relentlessly crashes the glass, attracts weak-side defenders rolling to the bucket and can drop a few dimes in the process as well.

His production last season in limited minutes is quite an achievement. Of those to average fewer than 28.0 minutes a night, Nance is one of only three players to put eight rebounds and three assists per game.

He’ll receive no awards for his efforts, but an argument could be made for a spot in the starting lineup.

Tristan Thompson has been a staple in the middle for Cleveland over the last five years, but all those Finals runs seem to be catching up to him. Only 28 years of age, he’s failed to play 60 games in each of the last two seasons with a contract set to expire next summer.

Nance is by far the more dynamic of the two at both ends of the court and is currently in the midst expanding his range out to the 3-point line.

He hit a modest 33.7 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc last season and will only improve as he gets more comfortable stationed along the perimeter.

The Cavs have their eye on the future and already gave Nance a four-year, $44.8 million extension in October. To better serve themselves moving forward, though, head coach John Beilein should look to fully invest in a player with plenty more room to grow.
