Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 big questions heading into 2019-20
By Ryan Piers
2. Does Garland work?
That’s purposely an annoyingly nonspecific, non-descriptive question. After a year sidelined by injury, there are so many unknowns surrounding the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 draft.
Does Darius Garland work with Collin Sexton? This is probably the most pressing query after the Cleveland Cavaliers invested two straight top-10 picks in point guards. Garland, likely, is the ball-dominate guard in this scenario.
He’s a better passer, perhaps most aptly reflected in his 11 assists in the 2018 McDonald’s All-American game. Sexton will need to be comfortable playing as a two-guard.
Does Darius Garland work like he did in prep ball? Garland was the stud of studs in high school, winning Tennessee Mr. Basketball three straight seasons. He could have probably played college ball anywhere in the country.
But can he still electrify crowds like he does in these jaw dropping clips following injury?
Does Darius Garland work in John Beilein’s system? The Michigan coach was known for running an offense that prioritized spacing, backdoor cuts and big men playing up top. It remains to be seen if Garland can adapt.
