3. When, or if, will Love be traded?

Kevin Love is still the Cleveland Cavaliers’ best player. He’s a four-time All-Star, holds the most career win shares (78.2) and highest 2K rating of any current Cav, if you are into that sort of thing. Yet, rarely has the clear best player on a team felt so insignificant in said team’s long-term plans.

Trade rumors hung above Love’s head like a dark cloud for years prior to his contract extension and LeBron James leaving last summer. Now, the 30-year-old’s timeline seems completely out-of-sync with his team’s. He is in his theoretical prime. His worthwhile teammates are not.

A team stacked with young, point guards probably prefers to run. Cleveland has always been in the bottom half of the league in terms of possessions per game with Love. Unless Love is starting a fast break with one of his famous quarterback-like passes, he prefers to play a half-court offense.

Still, it’s not a  guarantee Love will be moved. General manager Koby Altman appears content with him rostered. Love isn’t a diva, unlikely demand a trade. He already won a title, so no reason to latch onto a contender to ring chase.

While Love’s fit with Cleveland is awkward, there appears little urgency to make a change. Of course, questions about his Cavaliers future will always linger.
