Drafting Marial Shayok

Yearly, the notion that draft value deteriorates through the second round has been a tough one to dispel. Selected with the No. 54 pick, Marial Shayok is looking to embrace that.

Shayok turned in an impressive Summer League — posting averages of 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 50.0 percent shooting from the field. While his value is unquestionably higher as a result, it may be a while before he nudges his way into the Sixers’ clogged rotation. Nonetheless, he is adroit at cashing jumpers consistently from deep.

On a two-way contract, the 6’6″ guard should garner steady minutes for the Delaware Blue Coats at the start of next year. For now, he has proven that his development on both ends of the court will be monitored with great interest.
