White, Forbes and the guard saturation

Starting Derrick White at shooting guard full-time is also an option. He started 55 of 67 games last year. He added a stellar showing in the playoffs, where he scored 36 points and tallied five rebounds and five assists in Game 3 against the Denver Nuggets.

Dejounte Murray’s absence during the season pushed White and Bryn Forbes into the point guard spot.

White’s explosion last season put his hat in the ring for a starting position. He played the seventh-most minutes for the San Antonio Spurs last year and proved himself capable of more this year. White is a legit candidate for a full-time starting position this year.

A lineup with White would have him replacing Bryn Forbes as the main shooting guard. And the two most prominent members of the young core would be together in the backcourt.

Murray and White have only played 55.5 minutes together. And none of those scarce minutes came last season. These two players will have to learn how to mesh. But if they play up to their ceilings, the two will create one of the best young backcourts in the league.

On the defensive end, they will be top three.

White and Forbes will be competing for minutes as well as working together. It all depends on how the Spurs can move around and tinker with their lineups. Positions are already starting to become more and more obsolete in today’s NBA.
