Here is a list of the major roster changes that occurred:
- Kevin Durant did not re-sign and instead chose to join the Brooklyn Nets.
- The Warriors were able to complete and sign-and-trade for D’Angelo Russell in the midst of the KD situation.
- Andre Iguodala was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
- Signed Willie Cauley-Stein.
- Shaun Livingston was waived.
- DeMarcus Cousins and Quinn Cook signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Besides from losing/swapping KD for D’Angelo Russell, the Warriors also have to deal with the absence of Klay Thompson, who will likely return before the end of this season; and the vacancies left by Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston.
Both aforementioned players were essential pieces to the Warriors’ three championships in five years, providing veteran leadership on and off the court and an exemplary execution of their roles on the team.
Furthermore, DeMarcus Cousins could have helped the Warriors in the long run but is seeking a permanent home and a larger contract in the near future, something that the Warriors were unable to provide.
