Draft and sign Admiral Schofield

With that 42nd selection, the Washington Wizards chose Admiral Schofield out on the University of Tennessee. They could have done better with this pick, especially one that was in the first half of the draft’s final round.

While Schofield is a strong body who can shoot the 3-ball, he is severely undersized for the stretch four role at 6’6”. Even after a decent Summer League performance, it is still hard to place where exactly he fits into this Wizards team.

He does not have the quickness to defend guards, but he also does not have the size to defend the big men.

Another downside to drafting “The Admiral” is his lack of upside. The Wiz know exactly what they are getting out of this guy and there seems to be little room to grow.

However, the skill set of size and shooting he brings to the table is nothing to look down upon.

But for a team that will likely not be seeing the playoffs for at least a year, a more projectable player like Bol Bol (44th overall), Terance Mann (48th overall) or Jalen Lecque (undrafted) would have made more sense in the second round.

He signed a cheap three-year deal with the team, so this small investment will be another filler for the bench if he is not in the G League.

Drafting a player who is unlikely to ever become an NBA starter was just not the best way for this team to go. Despite this, Schofield will see minutes off the bench this season, but their impact will likely be minimal against the length of the NBA.
