Washington Wizards: Complete grades for the 2019 NBA offseason
By Ben Yokoyama
Sign Phil Booth
On July 26, the team signed former Villanova guard Phil Booth to an Exhibit 10 contract. This allows the Washington Wizards to convert it to a two-way deal, but if not, Booth will most likely get a G League roster spot. This is a good signing for the Wizards.
This two-time NCAA champion is the winningest player in Villanova history and was a team captain. His leadership and his winning experience will positively affect the G League team, which will likely have a few players on NBA contracts.
The Baltimore native also showed out on the court in college. His role with the Wildcats was as an all-around guard, but not a primary scorer until his senior year. After key departures he scored 18.6 points thanks to a great 3-point shot and strong interior scoring for a 6’3” guard.
Booth played his Summer League ball with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 11.3 points in Las Vegas and shooting 47.1 percent from deep.
With almost no risks attached to his deal, Booth will likely not see the floor in the NBA this season, but he will be a great system player in the G League for now.
