The Detroit Pistons are heading into the 2019-20 season looking to build on their success from last season. They’ll need to answer these questions first.

The Detroit Pistons are heading into 2019-20 looking to build on the success they experienced last season under new head coach Dwane Casey with a full year of power forward Blake Griffin leading the charge.

More from Hoops Habit

Griffin got an All-NBA nod, and he was able to get the team back to the playoffs for the first time in four seasons before they were swept out by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

In 2019, they’ll want to push forward rather than moving backward. They’re continuing to work on purging bad contracts off of their books, such as Jon Leuer being traded to the Bucks in exchange for Tony Snell and a first-round draft pick.

They added some young talent in the draft along with multiple veteran contributors in free agency. All that is well and good, but they have some questions to answer before we can get a full read on them for next year.

If they’re unable to answer these questions or get the wrong ones, they won’t build on their previous success, and it will be another year of wasting the prime of Griffin and their other stars. They can’t afford that with all of the capital that they invested in him when they traded for him.

If they feel they’re not going to make the playoffs next year at any point, trading him while his value is high is what could happen.
