Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 ways Cedi Osman can improve
By Tony Pesta
2. Confidence
Confidence and shot selection go hand-in-hand. It’s tough for a young player to build confidence when he is constantly having his shot blocked.
A lot of the time, Cedi Osman would have his shot rejected and be thrown to the ground. This type of play is demoralizing to anybody and it clearly had an effect on Osman’s game. He became visibly frustrated when he was blocked and this would trickle into other aspects of his shooting.
If Osman missed a few open shots, a decline in energy was obvious. He often held his head down after one of these situations. It’s nearly impossible to regain a rhythm when you lose confidence as a shooter.
This lack of confidence explains how Osman had some extremely low points this season. He had 13 games of below 30 percent shooting from the floor and 31 games of below 30 percent shooting from deep. When Osman is feeling off, his shot suffers mightily.
Most of all, Osman lacked the assertiveness to score the ball in general. He had too many passive moments in which he stood back and watched the play unfold without making a move.
Hopefully, Osman will begin to play with a more cool and collected demeanor. He can’t allow a cold slump to throw him off of the rest of his game. This will help him be more consistent on both ends of the floor.
