Los Angeles Lakers: Prospects team should have drafted instead of Horton-Tucker
SG Terence Davis, Undrafted
One of the surprise stars of the Summer League, the undrafted Terence Davis lit it up for the reigning champions. Although he essentially poses the same problem as Horton-Tucker — limited opportunities in a crowded backcourt — what we’ve seen suggests his ceiling is higher.
Just look at his first Summer League action, which came as a member of the Denver Nuggets.
During that initial appearance, he tallied 22 points (including five 3s) and forced the Toronto Raptors to pull the trigger on a guaranteed contract only hours later. From there, the shining didn’t stop
What really stood out was his abilities on the offensive end. Davis was an immediate sparkplug for the Raptors’ Summer League scoring, showcasing an ability to put points up in a number of ways. On top of that, he looked comfortable as a facilitator and even flashed upside on the defensive side of the court.
Especially with so many folks pondering if the Los Angeles Lakers added enough shooting and scoring potential around LeBron and AD, Davis seems like a second-round flier that could have paid dividends quicker than most.
Makes you wonder what NBA scouts were missing, allowing him to fall into the ranks of the undrafted.
In Los Angeles, Davis would likely have a hard time stealing minutes from the likes of Danny Green, Avery Bradley, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Troy Daniels.
With that said, he looks like a more complete and dynamic prospect at this point, making him a reasonable hindsight replacement for Horton-Tucker at No. 46.
