Denver Nuggets: Jamal Murray in-depth 2019-20 projections
By James Siegle
Passing
Jamal Murray grew as a passer last year, which allowed the Denver Nuggets to use him on the pick-and-roll down the stretch. He reduced his turnovers throughout the season, averaging 2.4 turnovers per game before the All-Star break, and just 1.5 afterwards.
His 4.8 assists per game last season were a career-high. He should see a small bump, as he’s projected to average 5.0 dimes per contest in 2019-20. This would be a new personal best, but not an excessive increase from last year.
This sounds like a broken record, but Denver’s record was also impacted by Murray’s passing:
When Murray…
- Handed out 5 or more assists: Denver’s record was 28-11
- Recorded 0-1 turnovers: Denver’s record was 22-10
Expect Murray’s pick-and-roll increase to result in further dime opportunities. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that Murray’s playoff assist numbers (4.7 per game) did not increase from the regular season, despite more pick-and-roll sets.
He’ll make another jump as a passer, but don’t expect his assists to increase dramatically.
