Denver Nuggets: Jamal Murray in-depth 2019-20 projections

Shooting
An interesting shift occurred in Jamal Murray’s game, as he’s previously been known for 3-point prowess. Over the past couple years, however, he’s developed rhythm from mid-range, somewhat changing his identity.
Per Basketball Reference, Murray shot a solid 44.8 percent from 10-16 feet last season. He nearly replicated this on deeper two-pointers (16-feet to the 3-point arc), knocking down 44.9 percent.
Look for him to run more pick-and-rolls with Jokic in 2019-20, resulting in increased opportunities from mid-range.
Overall, Murray should improve his field goal percentage slightly in the coming season. He’s projected to knock down 44.2 percent in 2019-20, compared to his 43.7 percent mark last year.
Murray’s 3-point percentage is lower than the eye test would predict, as he hit just 36.7 percent last season. His distance shots help Denver greatly, however, as the Denver Nuggets are dynamite when he’s hitting from deep. Check it out:
When Murray…
- Made 3 or more 3-pointers: Denver’s record was 17-4.
- Recorded 0 3-pointers: Denver’s record was 5-8
Murray should increase this slightly for 2019-20, as he’s projected at 37.5 percent from deep. He has a beautiful shot, and gets hot in a hurry.
Consider him Denver’s best all-around shooter for 2019-20.
