Spurs sign DeMarre Carroll

Later in free agency, the San Antonio Spurs signed unrestricted free agent DeMarre Carroll. Formerly of the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets, Carroll has logged 62 playoff games over the past six seasons.

He is going to be a solid pick up for the Spurs, as he brings a presence at the small forward position that was a void in the roster. Carroll averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in two seasons in Brooklyn while playing 27.7 minutes a game.

A solid contributor, Carroll isn’t afraid to shoot the ball. That has been a catalyst for disaster or success in his career. In Toronto, where he played with DeRozan, he had some struggles in the postseason, although that was in tune with the rest of those Raptors teams. Brooklyn was a solid fit for Carroll, and he should fit in well in San Antonio. And on a two year, $13 million dollar contract, it’s a bargain.

The signing was announced on June 30, but a week later it was announced that Carroll was a part of a sign-and-trade.

The Spurs sent the draft rights to Nemanja Dangubic to Brooklyn, who also received the draft rights to Aaron White from Washington, the Wizards also getting Spurs’ big man Davis Bertans.

Bertans’ departure could have been making room for Marcus Morris, but after his fiasco, a hole was left at the 4.
