Overall

Starting the summer, everything you thought could go against the Boston Celtics did. Kyrie Irving walked, Terry Rozier spoke ill of his teammates and coaches alike on national television and Al Horford left for pastures new.

It left Celtics fans wondering where the good news would come from, and with such a small amount of money to play with questions were flying all over social media.

Fast forward a few weeks and the Celtics look a much healthier prospect. Sure there is a slight roster imbalance accentuated by the lack of shooting from the 4 and 5 positions, but this is more of a Brad Stevens-type team than last year’s ever was.

Another trade is always a possibility when Danny Ainge is involved, making it highly likely that the roster going into the season isn’t the one which will finish it.

In sports, like life in general, you can only play with the hand you have been dealt. Danny played his hand like the seasoned veteran he is, putting Boston in a position to be competitive while ensuring their are options available should a star become disillusioned with their current team.

No, this wasn’t the best summer possible — far from it — but the front office ensured it wasn’t the doomsday that was being threatened when Kyrie and Al decided to leave.

Overall Grade: B-
