Conclusion

Minutes are available for on this Boston Celtics team following the upheaval this summer, with Edwards positioning himself to challenge Brad Wanamaker for the backup guard spot.

While his Summer League was encouraging, it was only five games; the real work starts in the coming weeks at training camp where he will get his first real taste of NBA talent.

Turnovers and decision making (which go hand-in-hand) are the biggest areas of improvement required to start with. Cutting down on stray passes and staying calm under pressure will not be an easy adjustment, however, it is a necessary one should he wish to contribute to this team.

We have seen the highlight reels and know his 3-point shot can develop to a level only described as lethal, adding an increased efficiency around the rim will do wonders for his offensive arsenal.

His personality displayed throughout his short time in the NBA spotlight lends itself to the notion he wants to learn and improve. Defensively he has all the tools necessary to become a problem, strong, fast and athletic.

It would be intriguing to see some minutes of Edwards and Marcus Smart in the backcourt, something Brad Stevens hopefully experiments with during the season’s infancy.

Finally, a chance to contribute to a competitive team, with the history that Boston has, is unique. It is down to him now to iron out those silly mistakes and make the available spot his own.

The stats from college do not tell the full story for this talented young guard and  he could develop over the season to be considered the steal of the draft.
