Boston Celtics: Diving deeper into Carsen Edwards
By Adam Taylor
Coming off of a screen
Big men don’t always roll to the hoop after setting a screen; sometimes their job becomes to set a pin-down elsewhere in hope of freeing up a shooter or cutter. This is important, as the guard then needs to read what is happening and make the correct decisions.
Carsen Edwards had the ball in his hands for 142 possessions of this nature during his final season in college.
Interestingly he took 123 shots, meaning he only fed the ball to a teammate 19 times. 123 shots led to 76 misses and a total of just 127 points, another low shooting percentage of 38.2 percent.
Drawing nine fouls however, is encouraging and speaks volumes for his ability to put the defense in a tight situation when attacking.
Most notable when watching Edwards play is his ability to turn on a dime, which is precisely what you saw in both college and Summer League last year.
Looking forward, expect Edwards’ ability to draw fouls to serve him well in his quest for minutes and a solidified role on the roster.
