NBA: 5 BIG3 players who deserve a roster spot next season
5. Brandon Rush
The NBA has put a premium on lanky perimeter wings who can both hit an outside shot and defend multiple positions. In simpler terms, the more 3-and-D players a team has, the more options they have to work with at both sides of the court.
Brandon Rush spent nine seasons in the NBA having never averaged more than 9.8 points per game in any one of those seasons.
He was never a household name, but the valuable skill-set he brings to the table mitigates whatever deficiencies he may have at the offensive end as a shot-creator and volume scorer.
Having last played for the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2016-17 campaign, Rush shot 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and boasts a career 3-point percentage of 40.2.
While the volume of just 2.7 career attempts per game leaves much to be desired, it’s his reputation built on a percentage ranked 41st all-time that can help stretch out a defense.

Having recently turned 34 years of age, whatever speed and quickness Rush brought to the court has likely declined a significant amount. He still possesses a solid 6’6” 220-pound frame with a 6’10” wingspan that even some the most agile athletes don’t have.
With a wealth of NBA knowledge to go with his measurements, his unique build has to count for something.
Rush has been solid in the BIG3, averaging 12.0 points and 8.3 rebounds a night.
Having experienced championship success with the Golden State Warriors in 2014-15, he’s got the intangibles to go with a much-desired playstyle that should have front offices giving him even just the smallest look.
