Brooklyn Nets: Complete grades for the 2019 NBA offseason

DeMarre Carroll sign-and-trade
Among many sign-and-trades around the NBA this summer was DeMarre Carroll’s which helped the San Antonio Spurs save money for a Marcus Morris signing (Morris eventually called an audible and went to the New York Knicks instead, for whatever reason).
As previously mentioned, the Nets swallowed Carroll’s contract two summers ago, fetching two draft picks in the process. They turned into Dzanan Musa and Rodions Kurucs, the latter of whom is already a useful player at the NBA level.
With Carroll (and many others) coming off the books this summer, the Nets were set to make a splash. But before doing so, they had to work out the kinks, one of which ended up being this deal. It was really of no benefit or harm to Brooklyn.
The Nets received two irrelevant players from this trade (Aaron White and Nemanja Dangubic); mainly they were doing San Antonio a favor, because they weren’t going to retain Carroll anyway.
He will make $20.6 million over three years in San Antonio, though the third year is only guaranteed for $1.35 million.
The Washington Wizards received Davis Bertans from San Antonio, so they probably made out the best of anyone in the deal. It’s not a good or bad trade for Brooklyn, but the Spurs have a right to be pissed about it; Morris high-key screwed them over.
