Signing Alec Burks

After playing the first seven-plus seasons of his career with the team that drafted him, Alec Burks‘ suitcase has picked up a lot of destination stickers since he left the Utah Jazz in a trade last November.

Burks signed a one-year veteran’s minimum deal with the Golden State Warriors on July 11, his third team in less than eight months since he left Salt Lake City.

Burks was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the deal that sent Kyle Korver back to Utah and was later moved to the Sacramento Kings at the trade deadline in a three-way deal that included the Houston Rockets.

He has struggled to regain his effectiveness after being limited by injuries for significant chunks of the last five seasons.

Since the start of the 2014-15 season, Burks has missed 182 of 410 regular-season games, sitting out 18 last season and settling for an end-of-the-bench role with the Kings to close out last season.

In all in 2018-19, Burks averaged 8.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 21.5 minutes per game, shooting 40.5 percent overall and 36.3 percent on 2.6 3-point attempts a game.

He put up 11.7 points in 28.8 minutes per game with the Cavaliers over 34 games, making 24 starts, before his playing time evaporated in Sacramento, where he averaged just 9.8 minutes per game in 13 games.

Burks can still be a deadly driver, as evidenced by his game-winner against the Brooklyn Nets in his third game with the Cavs.

Burks is a low-cost addition who could — if he stays healthy — provide some second-unit punch from the backcourt.
