1. Dennis Smith Jr.

To save many people from the confusion, Julius Randle could end up having an All-Star caliber season in New York this year.

But after ending up the 2018-19 season with averages of 21.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, it might be a little over the top to suggest that he be a candidate for a breakout season.

Dennis Smith Jr. on the other hand, is someone that is entirely up for the task.

After getting traded to New York thanks to the Kristaps Porzingis trade, he has played with so much energy and confidence in his game, making it clear that he is looking for a permanent home.

Smith had a very good rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks, earning All-Rookie Second Team honors. Unfortunately for him, Dallas would go on to draft Luka Doncic with the 3rd pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, eventually taking the job of handling the ball away from Smith’s hands.

In New York, Dennis upped his numbers slightly, though he only played 21 games for the Knicks in 2018-19. Smith has always looked like one of the most talented players in his class, an opinion help by many up to this day.

Smith is a serious candidate for a breakout season as we might witness him elavating his game to a completely different level. Starting October, we’ll have the chance to enjoy this freakishly athletic point guard in action, as he begins his journey as a third-year NBA player.
