1. Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves

There is no denying Karl-Anthony Towns’ talent.

At 7’0″ and 250 pounds, he can do nearly everything on the offensive end of the floor: drive, dunk, shoot from 3, post up and pass. It’s why he averages 22.3 points, 2.6 assists and 11.9 rebounds in his four-year career and a two-time All-Star.

All those stats and offensive talent has led to one playoff appearance — and one playoff game won — in five seasons. Most NBA gurus would even argue that the Minnesota Timberwolves only made that playoff run in 2018 due to Jimmy Butler.

KAT just hasn’t won much.

The Timberwolves have also struggled to surround him with high level teammates.

While Andrew Wiggins is fine, he has never lived up to his hype. Minnesota infamously traded away Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn to Chicago to acquire Butler, hoping that reuniting him with his old coach Tom Thibodeau would help the young Wolves … only to see it explode in their faces.

Most recently, leading up to the opening of 2019 free agency many considered Minnesota to be the front-runner to land D’Angelo Russell only to see him end up in Golden State.

Now, in a newly remodeled and highly competitive Western Conference the Timberwolves are likely to miss the playoffs again — the fourth time in five seasons for Towns.

Now, Minnesota would never willingly trade their franchise star, but at what point does the big man decide that he wants a change of scenery and a chance to compete?

With his max-level contract extension kicking in next season — five years long worth nearly $160 million — the Timberwolves could get a massive haul for their superstar on the open market.
