1. Sign 3-point shooters

Shooting well from 3-point land is obviously one of, if not the most important aspects in basketball today. Miami’s 3-point percentage was 21st in the league last year. Now that they have a star in Butler that does most of his scoring inside the arc, it makes sense to surround him with 3-point shooters.

One strong candidate is Kyle Korver. The 6’7″, 38-year-old has led the league in 3-point percentage in four seasons and is coming off a year shooting 39.7 percent with 2.0 makes a game from behind the arc. Miami will be vying with several other teams to sign him. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that three other teams are in the lead, but Korver is still available. If Korver has interest in joining Miami, the Heat shouldn’t hesitate to sign him.

Another candidate is Justin Holiday. The 6’6”, 30-year-old guard is coming off a season shooting 34.8 percent from 3-point range with 2.0 makes per game. He averaged 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game last season. He can also contribute on defense, as he has a 7’0” wingspan.

The ideal candidate is proficient at spotting up/catch-and-shooting. The Heat already have plenty of ball handlers, so acquiring guys that don’t need to dribble to be effective scorers is ideal. A couple of other players that would make sense are Jodie Meeks, John Jenkins and Iman Shumpert.

Although the free agency pool has dried up, the Heat have some solid options to complete their roster. The exact names aren’t critical, but the types of players they add can be beneficial. The Heat would have more than proficient depth by adding shooting and a little bit more size to their roster. They would also be able to stay competitive if the injury bug bites them.
