After two weeks of free agency, the Miami Heat still have some roster spots to fill. With no cap space to help them, their options are scarce.

After a disappointing 2018-19 campaign, the Miami Heat have retooled their roster. They drafted Kentucky guard Tyler Herro, traded multiple picks for Stanford forward KZ Okpala, traded for 4-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, and also acquired center Meyers Leonard to make the Butler trade financially possible. After missing the playoffs last season, the Heat look poised to return to the postseason.

Still, the roster is not complete yet. Their current roster (fully guaranteed contracts) is as follows:

  • Guards: Goran Dragic, Dion Waiters, Justise Winslow, Tyler Herro
  • Forwards: Jimmy Butler, Derrick Jones Jr., KZ Okpala, James Johnson, Kelly Olynyk
  • Centers: Bam Adebayo, Meyers Leonard

That’s eleven roster spots filled. These players will be the main rotation guys, but the Heat still have four roster spots left. These deals will all be for the veteran minimums, as that’s the only contract Miami can offer due to being over the cap.

Although their rotation will likely be composed of the previously mentioned eleven players, filling these roster spots properly is still somewhat important. The purpose of filling these roster spots is for extra depth in the regular season and replacements for injured players. Miami is basically adding third-stringers with these spots, but they can still be useful.

Here are the three ways Miami can make the most of its remaining roster spots.
