2. At a minimum, the Clippers are now equal to the Los Angeles Lakers

Here’s where we are with these Clippers and these Lakers: The two teams are at least equal to each other. Yes, the Lakers may have the cache, and they do have the championship banners, no one can simply wash out their history.

In terms of the present though, the Clippers have ascended to a level the Lakers have often known, the level of championship contention. It’s rarified air for the formerly downtrodden franchise.

Let’s face it, the team that used to be L.A’s other  NBA franchise now sports the better front office, coach and overall roster with a brighter future. While the Lakers are under the gun to produce a championship during LeBron’s final prime seasons, the Clippers are under no such pressure. Kawhi and PG are just now hitting their peak years and despite both being potential free agents in the summer of 2021, it’s hard to imagine either leaving the comforts of home again.

The Lakers do have LeBron and Anthony Davis and a few nice pieces to surround them, but the Clippers are loaded with perhaps the deepest roster in the league. While Leonard and George landed with a team coming off a playoff appearance, James and Davis’ Lakers have had to piece together a supporting cast on the fly.

The Lakers might be the team with the prized history, but the Clippers might just own the future.
