New Orleans Pelicans: 3 takeaways from 2019 NBA offseason
By Alex Hoban
2. No Davis, no problem
Ever since the New Orleans Pelicans drafted Anthony Davis back in 2012, the hope of Pelican fans was that he would turn into a superstar who would lead the team to great success.
Davis did become that superstar, but unfortunately never led the team to the success that everyone was hoping for.
Along with a bunch of talent, Davis also brought hope to the city of New Orleans and to their fans. That hope was there year after year, every Pelicans fan knowing the team had talent and it was only a matter of time before they finally put it all together.
However, last winter AD openly requested a trade out of the Big Easy and the future of the team suddenly looked in doubt.
Luckily for the Pelicans, the basketball gods were looking down on them. The Pels won the 2019 Draft Lottery and the rights to sign basketball phenom Zion Williamson, even though they had only a 6 percent chance of getting the No. 1 pick.
Then shortly after they found the right AD trade and as we know got a very nice return for him.
So just like that, the team went from seeming like they would be in rebuilding mode with a few dark years ahead to having one of the most exciting players ever to enter the league and a handful of other young players to play beside him that have a ton of promise and potential.
The Anthony Davis era brought a lot of hope to New Orleans, but ultimately ended in disappointment.
Luckily for the franchise and everyone who supports them, that disappointment did not last long at all and the new group of young guys in New Orleans is bringing more hope than ever before to the city.
