Dwight Howard: 3 potential landing spots for free agent center
By Nick Crain
1. Sacramento Kings
Another young team who has a shot at making the playoffs for the first time in a while is the Sacramento Kings. An extremely guard-heavy team, Sacramento has the shooters to make the postseason.
Although Marvin Bagley should prove to be a force at the power forward position next season, playing alongside Dwight Howard could be extremely beneficial.
As deep as they are at almost every position, center is truly their one weak spot. While they signed both Dewayne Dedmon and Richaun Holmes in free agency this summer, neither can produce on the glass or the defensive end like Howard can.
On another note, there are very few players on the Sacramento roster with playoff experience. While the currently constructed roster is good enough to make the playoffs, having postseason experience is something they will need.
Howard could be a cheap option to fill this void. Realistically, he would be someone who proves much more beneficial in the postseason than he would in the regular season.
Acquiring Howard would essentially bolster the Sacramento Kings depth, having three solid players at every single position.
A move like this would raise their ceiling without having to trade away assets. Taking risks is something a lot of good teams historically have had to do in order to succeed at the highest level.
While Howard probably isn’t going to make near the amount of money he has previously in his career, a cheap short-term deal in Sacramento may be his best option.
