Dwight Howard: 3 potential landing spots for free agent center
By Nick Crain
2. Atlanta Hawks
After playing for the Atlanta Hawks in 2016-17, perhaps another stint with the team could prove useful. His time in Atlanta the first time around was on a team that finished fifth in the Eastern Conference.
After several rebuilding years, the Hawks look ready to make another run at the playoffs.
In his year with the Hawks previously, Howard averaged 13.5 points and 12.7 rebounds in 29.7 minutes per game. He was able to stay healthy that season, appearing in 74 games and starting in every single one of those.
As of now, Atlanta’s center rotation includes Alex Len, Bruno Fernando and Damian Jones. None of these players have near the resume or experience that Howard would bring to the table.
In a supporting role alongside Trae Young, John Collins, Jabari Parker and Cam Reddish, Howard could get plenty of quality minutes in an attempt to bring the Hawks back into the playoffs.
On a cheap one-year deal, what does Atlanta have to lose? They are a solid team, however, they probably aren’t a true contender.
If Howard were able to be the veteran piece that helps propel the Atlanta Hawks into the playoffs to get the young guys postseason experience, the risk would be worth it.
