Cleveland Cavaliers: Ranking the NBA’s best young cores

4. Minnesota Timberwolves
Potential All-Stars: Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Jarrett Culver
Though their run together has been disappointing so far, it’s hard not to see the potential in Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. These two players may not have accomplished much yet, but it still feels like they are on the verge of dominance.
Towns is without a doubt one of the best centers in the league. In just four seasons, the 2016 Rookie of the Year has been selected to two All-Star teams and one All-NBA team.
Averaging 24.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game on 51.8 percent shooting from the floor and a 40.0 percent clip from deep, Towns is on his way to NBA greatness.
While Towns has lived up to every expectation so far, Wiggins finds himself on the opposite end of the spectrum. Becoming one of the first prospects to go viral online due to HoopMixtape videos, Wiggins was projected to be the next basketball prodigy.
While far from a legend in the making, Wiggins has had a surprisingly successful career when you strip away his former expectations.
For his career, Wiggins averages 19.4 points per game. At just 23-years of age, Wiggins has already accumulated 7,768 points. This makes him one of the youngest players in NBA history to reach that mark.
Offensive production isn’t the area of concern for Wiggins. Despite having all of the tools necessary to be a versatile player, Wiggins is far from being a two-way player. With a defensive rating of 111.9, Wiggins ranked 431st in the league last year.
This is extremely disheartening for a player of his frame and athleticism.
Joining the Wolves this season will be the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Jarrett Culver. Perhaps this playmaking forward will open things up for the rest of the team. Culver showed a talent for slashing into the lane and has great ball-handling abilities for his size.
Overall, the Wolves have a solid trio of young talent. Headlined by a borderline superstar in Towns, it may only be a matter of time before Minnesota punches their ticket to the NBA Playoffs.
Cavaliers takeaways:
The Cavaliers need to find a big man to pair with one of their current rising stars. This inside-out dynamic is something they have with Kevin Love, but his health has made it hard for anyone to catch a rhythm.
