New Orleans Pelicans: 3 remaining free agents to pursue
By Eliot Clough
The New Orleans Pelicans have done a lot to improve this offseason, but there are more ways the youth can benefit from 2019 NBA free agency.
With the hire of former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, the haul of players and picks brought in in exchange for Anthony Davis, and the players acquired through the 2019 NBA Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans are set to have completed possibly one of the most successful offseasons in the last decade.
More remains to be done.
Given the urgency with which the NBA attacked 2019 free agency, the acquisition of Kawhi Leonard by the Los Angeles Clippers and the panic signings by the Los Angeles Lakers, high-level free agents no longer remain on the market. However, the value remains there for several players that the Pelicans organization may pursue.
Through the draft as well as free agency, the Pels no longer have many gaping holes in their roster as currently constructed. In fact, they currently have 13 players on guaranteed contracts, plus three more on non-guaranteed deals.
There is no need to purge the small amount cap space through the mid-level exception that is currently unsettled. Despite that fact and the respect that the organization has gained throughout the league and from fans, it wouldn’t hurt to grab one more free agent among those that are still available.
