4. Utah Jazz

At first blush, this may seem like a ridiculous notion. The Utah Jazz just traded Korver away to the Memphis Grizzlies to bring in Mike Conley; if they valued Korver enough to want him on their team, wouldn’t they have kept him around?

That’s a reasonable thought, but the answer can be somewhere between the extremes of not wanting him at all, and not prioritizing him above adding a player such as Mike Conley. With Dante Exum under contract for another year, the Jazz probably did not have another player they could include in the deal and still make things work.

Bringing back a waived Korver, however, could work for both sides. The Jazz have not replaced Korver’s role on the roster, and he could fill much the same one as he did last season with the team. While the Western Conference is loaded, the Jazz deserve to be in the conversation for best team in the West. Korver would be playing for a contender.

Because Korver was traded to the Grizzlies and then to the Phoenix Suns before being waived, there are no limitations to him returning to the Jazz this season (only the Grizzlies). If Korver doesn’t harbor any hard feelings for the team he spent two separate stints with, he could rejoin a contender with whom he has a high level of familiarity already.
