1. Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe was signed to a bad contract when he left the Pistons a few years ago. The Milwaukee Bucks were willing to overpay him, and they eventually got out of their mistake. Since then, Monroe has fallen far. He has bounced around to multiple teams as a backup center, and he finds himself without a team in the back end of his prime. Why not reunite with the Pistons to give them some scoring off the bench?

Monroe is a far better scoring option at center than Drummond, who has struggled to develop his post game thus far in his career. During his final season with the Pistons, he was averaging 18.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per 36 minutes. He brings a similar screening element to Pachulia while bringing a better offensive game as a whole.

Monroe played for around $2 million last season, and his value didn’t increase at all after he was waived and finished the season on the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers. They could choose to use a trade exception, cap space or what’s left of the mid-level to bring him into the fold.

At this point in free agency, their team is pretty well set, so they don’t have to worry about losing flexibility. Whichever he chooses won’t affect their finances of the future, which is very important.
