2. 2018-present City Edition jersey
Dubbed the “Purple Reign” jerseys, these were the response to the grey City Edition design that was unveiled in August 2017. They provided a much-needed upgrade.
This jersey takes some of the best elements from previous years’ jerseys, and combines them into one design that was extremely popular with the fans. It starts with the black background of the 2000’s alternate jersey, and then adds the small guard hairs design from the previous City Edition, and puts that up on the right shoulder. Keeping that color as a greyish-white also works to stand out from the rest of the jersey, while — just like the advertisements on either shoulder — not looking too out of place.
Then you have that purple electricity idea that would later be the cornerstone of the Earned Edition jerseys. The “Wolves” on the chest seems to pop off of the jersey, and the color pairs nicely with the black background, looking like purple lightning over the night sky.
The design also takes a huge part of Minnesota history, with Prince being born there, and incorporates that into a jersey meant to represent the city of Minneapolis as both where the Timberwolves make their home, and where Prince made his. Nicknamed the “Purple Reign” jerseys by the fan and the team, expect this design to be just as prominent this season as it was during 2018-19.
