It’s time to take a look back and rank some of the best jerseys in the history of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In August 2017, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced they would be unveiling a new logo, as well as a new jersey design for both home and away games. Although an offseason image change is par for the course in the NBA, this one was meet with a huge amount of indifference.

Most fans agreed that an updated logo would make sense, considering that Minnesota had kept the same logo since 1996, but the uniforms had just been introduced in 2010, and a lot of fans really enjoyed them. Still, there was a buzz around the Wolves fanbase waiting for the next big design, and the reveal just kind of killed that buzz. They weren’t bad, per se; just kind of underwhelming.

The home jersey, dubbed the “Association” edition, (pictured below) stepped away from the colorful and visually interesting design of the past, and instead went with a mostly white jersey with a small splash of color at the top. The Wolves described this jersey as:

"“The Association Edition pays homage to the world’s most exclusive basketball club and stands as a representation of originality. Each player in the league will grace the court in the traditional threads as a badge of honor for the very dream they have all made come true.”"

While the away jersey, dubbed the “Icon” edition” (pictured below) did add a lot more color, there didn’t seem to be any reason for the particular design. Previous jerseys drew inspiration for the evergreens and the vast lakes that cover Minnesota’s surface, but again, there didn’t seem to be any history that was weaved into this uniform. Weirdly enough, the team tried to trick everyone from not noticing this with its description:

"“…From the core colors to the nine letters embroidered across the chest, the Icon Edition is symbolic to our rich heritage and separates us from our opponents.”"

The Timberwolves also added two other jerseys, which were briefly used and now look to be out of the team’s rotation, the first of which was the “Statement” edition:

And the original “City” edition jersey. The idea behind this design was laid out on the Timberwolves website:

"“It is decorated in grey and designed with a unique pattern to recall the North’s wintry characteristics and the guard hairs of a wolf during the frozen season.”"

Now, two years out from the unveiling, it’s time to take a look at some of the best and most beloved jerseys in Minnesota history, and maybe encourage the team to consider these in a new redesign.
