2019 NBA free agency: 5 most underrated signings
3. Milwaukee Bucks adding Wesley Matthews on a two-year minimum deal
After dropping four straight games in the Eastern Conference Finals to the eventual champion Toronto Raptors, the Milwaukee Bucks have been busy in the offseason. Unfortunately, they did lose Malcolm Brogdon, who agreed to a four-year deal with the Pacers. In exchange, Milwaukee will receive a first round and two future second round picks.
After losing Brogdon, the Bucks reached an agreement on a multi-year deal with Brook Lopez. Along with that, it appears that George Hill return will return to Milwaukee, as the two sides reportedly agreed on a deal that will keep him in the fold for three seasons.
Furthermore, Milwaukee came to terms on a two-year deal, $10 million deal for Robin Lopez. Having just the minimum salary left to offer, it would’ve been reasonable to presume the Bucks wouldn’t be able to get much at such a low price tag.
However, it seems the Bucks and free agent guard Wesley Matthews have agreed to a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
In 2018-19, Matthews compiled averages of 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 40 percent shooting from the field. With the exception of his 2009-10 rookie campaign, Matthews has been a double-digit scorer every year he’s been in the league. Not to mention, he is a decent defender and has converted at least 38 percent of his attempts from downtown in eight of his 10 NBA seasons.
Simply put, the Bucks will get their money’s worth in this deal.
