Utah Jazz: Ranking their 2019 offseason additions so far
2. Signing Bojan Bogdanovic
Perhaps one of the more underrated signings of the NBA offseason up to this point is forward Bojan Bogdanovic agreeing to join the Jazz.
Less than an hour after the free agency period officially began, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Bogdanovic was going to be making the move from the Indiana Pacers to the Jazz, signing a four-year, $73 million deal in Salt Lake City.
The addition of Bogdanovic to the starting rotation also spelled the end for long-time Jazz forward Derrick Favors, who was shortly thereafter sent to the New Orleans Pelicans in a trade.
Bogdanovic, a 30-year-old forward who will be entering his sixth season in the league, had his best professional season to date with the Pacers in 2018-19.
In 81 appearances, in which he started all 81 games, the forward averaged career-high marks in points (18.0), rebounds (4.1), assists (2.0) and steals per game (0.9). He also shot a career-best 49.7 percent from the field, career-high 42.5 percent from 3 and 80.7 percent from the free throw line.
Bogdanovic will give the Jazz some really nice versatility and will pair well alongside Joe Ingles as two notable players that can help boost Utah’s 3-point capabilities.
Although the signing of Bogdanovic was somewhat surprising, it’s another example showing that the Jazz front office is serious about winning now and putting solid pieces around the newly-formed Big 3 of Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.
As the 2019-20 season eventually kicks off, we might look back at the addition of Bogdanovic in Utah as one of the more underrated moves around the league this offseason.
