After striking out in a widely talked-about 2019 NBA free agency period, the New York Knicks appear to be in a much better place than the public thinks.

What a season it’s been for the New York Knicks and the team’s fanbase. You usually don’t expect that much noise revolving around a 17-win team, but when it comes to the Knicks, they seemed to be the most talked-about team since day 1 of the 2018-19 season.

First, there were some rumors regarding potential free agency signings. Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler and Kyrie Irving were all names that came to mind when discussing New York’s potential offseason plans.

Then, pure chaos. In one of the most controversial trades of the century, the New York Knicks decided to ship off their superstar in Kristaps Porzingis, in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr., who is the player they should’ve drafted in the 2017 NBA Draft, and future cap space.

Even though basically every top-tier free agent had New York as one of their top choices, the Knicks were ultimately left almost empty-handed. Signing Julius Randle to a three-year deal was certainly a plus by itself, but a huge disappointment after all the uproar regarding signing two potential superstars.

As New York Knicks fans are now depressed, it would be the appropriate time to mention that there appear to be some silver linings that derive from this huge free agency chagrin.
