The Detroit Pistons don’t have a ton of cap space and money to play with, but they can get creative with guys like this to infuse some talent.

The Detroit Pistons are preparing to start free agency, and they’ll be looking to build on last year’s postseason trip by adding more talent around All-NBA forward Blake Griffin. They added a few pieces on draft night, but they need to look for NBA-ready talent while those guys develop at the end of the bench, overseas or elsewhere. Free agency is the best place for them to do that, but they’ll have to be crafty to do it.

Right now, after declining the team option on small forward Glenn Robinson III, that move helps them get under the salary cap, and they can get more room to add more talent by rescinding certain cap holds.

However, they still rank inside the bottom 10 in terms of money to spend due to the expensive contracts they have on the books for guys like Griffin and Andre Drummond. They’ve been active already with one possible move already being reported.

They grabbed a couple of guys to play the small forward spot, and they have their starting rotation pretty well set at this point. There are still some weaknesses and depth spots that it never hurts to add at though especially when you consider the number of injuries that Griffin and point guard Reggie Jackson have dealt with in their careers. Let’s take a look at some of those potential targets.
