Delon Wright: 3 years, $29 million (Dallas Mavericks)

It may seem curious for the Dallas Mavericks to add another point guard to the mix when they’ve already got point forward Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson and J.J. Barea, but Rick Carlisle can never have too much playmaking, and Delon Wright is a combo guard who’s used to playing off the ball with Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet during his time with the Toronto Raptors.

At the price of two second round draft picks, the Mavs are adding a 27-year-old with starter potential. While $29 million over three years feels like a slight overpay for a guy who posted 8.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game on .434/.298/.793 shooting splits last year, Wright is a good and underrated player who can either bolster the bench or step into the starting rotation. At 6’5″, he’s also a stout defender and capable rebounder for a guard.

Dallas needs legitimate NBA players, and while some of their re-signings have been underwhelming, especially given how much cap space they had to work with, this is still a respectable move adding a versatile player with room to grow.
