2019 NBA free agency: 5 potential landing spots for Derrick Rose
5. Phoenix Suns
Between the likes of Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges, the Phoenix Suns appear to have a solid core in place to build around for the future. What they lack and have failed to address in recent years is their glaring weakness at the point guard position.
Ever since attempting the infamous three-guard lineup back during the 2014-15 season, Phoenix hasn’t been able to establish much consistency at the most important position in the NBA today. It’s part of the reason the Suns continue to remain trapped in the cellars of the Western Conference standings.
The Suns have also come to lack perimeter scoring options outside of Booker. Their young stud has taken on more and more of the burden offensively, as evidenced by his continuously increasing usage rate during each of his four NBA seasons, including the third-highest in the league this past season.
Having seen more time at the point guard spot with a career-high mark in assists, the organization appears to be running its franchise talent into the ground. Rose would certainly help take some of the load off and allow Booker to focus on what he does best rather than serving every need necessary just to remain competitive.
Rose played some of his best basketball this past year, but he’s by no means a finished product. The last thing he may want to do is throw himself back into the national spotlight where pressure and expectations would almost assuredly weigh him down mentally.
Phoenix is calm and quiet. The Suns are still a mess and will likely receive a high lottery pick once again next season. Rose can arrive, play significant minutes next to a talented young core to help support him and continue his rehabilitation in a low-pressure environment that will allow him to prove last year’s production was no fluke.
