After high school, NBA prospects have to wait one year before they go to the league. A majority of the players decide to go to college and other ones decide to play overseas. Darius Bazley decided to not go either route.

He was supposed to go to Syracuse or the G League but he decided to do neither. Instead, he decided to work out and seek advice from other players.

His decision to not play any basketball before going to the NBA wasn’t well received and it is one of the reasons that this pick was bad. When you are drafting players and you are a win now team you have to get players that have experience.

The OKC Thunder did not do that. Instead, they chose to get a player to develop. If they do not have a good free agency where they find players that can help them then you can go back and look at this pick as to where the season started to go wrong.
