1. Jarrett Culver

A crafty wing from Texas Tech, Jarret Culver, has the potential to be one of the best players from his draft class. Selected sixth overall, the Cavaliers had only one chance to pick Culver, and they might regret not capitalizing on it.

Culver has what almost every NBA team needs. A long and strong frame allows him to play solid perimeter defense and come up with the occasional block. Meanwhile, he is a talented offensive player with shot-creating ability from anywhere on the floor. Averaging 18.5 points per game last season, Culver proved he can score in multiple ways.

The Cavaliers absolutely could have used Culver’s expertise. Finishing the season as one of the worst defensive teams in the league, Culver would have helped improve this area for Cleveland. Furthermore, he would have given them a real option at the forward position in terms of offensive production. While Cedi Osman has shown flashes of potential, Culver likely has a higher ceiling.

If the Cavaliers were drafting strictly based on who fits best with their team, Culver would have been their choice at the No. 5 spot without a doubt. However, Cleveland decided to go with the best player available, Darius Garland. Despite already having a promising point guard in Collin Sexton, the Cavaliers felt they were better off taking the player with the most talent off of the board.

As a result, there are two ways the Cavaliers can regret passing on Culver. If Garland winds up not meshing with the team at all and/or Culver turns into an All-Star in the near future. If either one of those things happens, Cleveland will be upset they didn’t select Culver on draft night.
