2. He does not fit the team

The Kings have two options with their considerable cap space. The Kings could sign an experienced player who could instill wisdom in the Kings young stars. A player such as Al Horford would fit this role.

This option greatly benefits the Kings young stars, as Bagley, Fox, Buddy Hield, and Harry Giles could learn from an experienced star who would help the team in the short term and long-term.

Harrison Barnes, despite his championship ring, is not experienced enough to act as this veteran presence. Further, his reputation is tarnished due to his lackluster performance against the Cavaliers in 2016. Barnes might have a ring, but it is hard to think of him as a winner.

The other option the Kings have with their extensive cap space is to sign a player who better fits their window.

Barnes is simply not good enough to be a cornerstone of the franchise. The only way to sign Barnes is to give him the aforementioned large contract that he wants. If the Kings are smart enough to let Barnes leaves the they could try to replace him with a similar but better wing player.

A star like Tobias Harris or even Kevin Durant, who has stated his admiration for the Kings before, would provide a better foundational player for the Kings to target in free agency and team with Fox and Bagley for the future than Barnes.
