Los Angeles Lakers: 5 potential targets in 2019 NBA free agency
5. Patrick Beverley
Patrick Beverley is one of the more underrated point guards in the league. Perhaps it’s due to not being an elite scorer as he averaged just 7.6 points per game in 2018-19. Perhaps it’s because of his small stature, as the seven-year veteran stands at just 6’1”, weighing 185 pounds.
On the other hand, whatever Beverley may lack in size, he makes up for it with heart and tenacity. An example of this unfolded in the Los Angeles Clippers’ first-round playoff matchup against the Golden State Warriors.
Despite nearly given up a foot in height to Kevin Durant, Beverley refused to shy away from the daunting task of trying to defend the guy who has a pair of Finals MVP awards on his resume.
Secondly, although Beverley isn’t a great outside shooter (41.2 percent overall from the field during his career) he has shown the ability to knock down the long ball.
He converted 39.7 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc last season and has shot better than 38 percent from 3-point range in each of the last four seasons.
With the being said, adding a player who is a defensive pest and can stretch the floor would be a welcomed addition.
